Keep Your Hair in Star Studded Status

Have you even lived if you haven’t had a hair faux pas in your lifetime? Most of us have learned a hard lesson or two after attempting a DIY (do it yourself) haircut or an unsuccessful trip to the salon.

Sheenon Olson, Creative Director of Atma Beauty has seen it all before! He shared some major hair don’ts in his interview with Marie Claire Magazine.

Maintain your bangs at a moderate length and width. Bangs that are cut too deep into the hairline or too wide tend to give that unattractive “bowl effect”.

"The key here is to not cut past the corners of the peak of your eyebrows as a general rule of thumb," Olson says. Go too wide, and it's like you're wearing a cap. There's really not much you can do until your fringe grows out beyond pinning/slicking them back, so prevention is key—read up before you take the plunge.” - Sheenon Olson interview with Marie Claire magazine

Choose a color that complements your skin tone. In general red undertones go with darker colors and yellow undertones go with warm colors.

Avoid the Snow White Effect. While extra dark hair could create an exotic look temporarily, the magic quickly fades.

“...several weeks later, when your hair grows out, your light roots will make it look like your hair is thinning or balding. Yikes. Olson says the best rule of thumb is to not darken your hair more than two levels from your natural color to lessen this effect.” - Sheenon Olson interview with Marie Claire magazine

Use the right setting on your Hot Tools. To keep your hair healthy, set your flat iron to the lowest heat setting.

"Flat irons cause the most damage to hair that I see, beyond anything else," Olsen says. "Couple that with bleached hair, and you have a recipe for a chemical haircut." - Sheenon Olson interview with Marie Claire magazine

Put your phone down during your haircut. You might be tempted to text during your haircut, but it might be best to keep your head up if you want an even haircut.
